ICON PAINTING
In the Orthodox Church, there are icon painting canons that every icon painter adheres to. The rules are not officially prescribed but are passed down through the generations from master to student. The basic unwritten rule is that the icon should be made according to the pattern (template) of an older icon, which is a generally accepted pattern. Painting icons based on the artist's imagination without knowing these rules does not represent church teaching and cannot be called an icon in the strict sense of the word. Accordingly, it is desirable to practice painting icons for a long time based on the pattern and with the advice of an icon painter.
Art Centrala offers you an introduction to the basic processes of icon painting. Icon painting lessons with painting start from the first lesson. Icon painting is done exclusively with pigments using egg emulsion, on linden board. The participants use the templates of the original icons of the old masters and at all times have the help and assistance of the lecturer in accordance with their needs and painting experience. The lecturers introduce the participants to the types of preparation, iconographic canons, symbolism on the icons, as well as different ways to protect the painted layer. All materials for work are provided and included in the price, except for the board on which the icon is painted. The price of a board in the atelier is the same as in all stores where they are sold. You can buy a board from us or in one of the shops and bring it with you. The price of the course includes a free imitation of gold (slag metal), while real gold is charged extra depending on the surface and cartage.
Due to the impossibility of knowing in advance in which format you want to start your first work, as well as whether you want imitation or the use of pure gold, we advise you to contact us for a precise agreement before starting the painting.
The studio is equipped with several professional easels, benches, work surfaces suitable for painting and tables with electric motors that adjust the height. Each student has at his disposal a large selection of acrylic or oil paints as well as pigments, depending on the technique and technology of work. A large selection of different brushes to work with goes without saying. The studio also has all the necessary technological aids such as projectors, computers, and drawing boards. The studio is equipped with all tools for top quality work. Attendees have the opportunity to use professional literature, art monographs and catalogs. With the professional guidance of experienced lecturers, participants will develop their talent to the maximum and achieve the best results.
Classes are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 6 PM to 9 PM.
The price of the course is RSD 8,200
The Icon Painting course has no duration limit. Participants attend the course as much as they think is necessary, and there is practically no end to it, because improvement is always possible. The course is paid for in cycles of four lessons, and each lesson lasts three hours. Classes are attended once a week at the selected time, and there is the possibility of coming twice a week at a price of 14,400 rsd, which gives you a discount. It is planned that the lessons will be used within a period of thirty days from the moment of payment of the first installment.
